One of the most expensive gemstones on the planet, diamonds are a gift to us. Adorned by the rich and adored by everyone, these stones are the most sought after. But the process of perfecting a single diamond is very lengthy. Let’s find out-

1. Formation and extraction
Due to the immense pressure that is present in this part of the earth, as well as the extreme temperatures, a diamond gradually begins to form. The entire process takes between 1 billion and 3.3 billion years, which is approximately 25% to 75% of our earth’s age.
These rocks are then extracted by miners in their raw forms..

2. Testing and shaping
The mined diamonds are then sent to laboratories for testing. To avoid any risk of fraud they are tested under high pressure and temperature as real diamonds are unbreakable.
Once assured that the diamond is real, they are cut and shaped as desired under heat and pressure. Here is where the 4 C’s come in. the cut, color, carat and clarity will then determine the quality of a diamond. And the better the quality, the higher it’s price.

3. Finishing and setting
These diamonds are rechecked and given finishing. They are then set into a ring of choice. These diamond rings are rather extravagant and can range from $200 to more than $2 million. The price varies on many factors like the quality of the ring, whether it is mass produced or hand-made and much more. The rings are further sold off to the highest bidder.

That was the journey of a diamond from rock to ring. We hope it was helpful.
